How Nitronox® Nitrous Analgesia Can Help Increase Patient Satisfaction

Porter Nitronox® nitrous oxide analgesia

Nitronox® nitrous oxide analgesia is a colorless, non-flammable gas with a slight metallic scent and taste. It is commonly known as laughing gas due to the euphoric feeling it can produce. Nitrous oxide has been used in medical and dental settings for over 150 years for its analgesic and sedative properties. [1]

Nitronox® nitrous oxide analgesia can also be used as an anxiolytic, or anxiety-reducing agent. It works by binding to and activating gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors in the brain. GABA is a neurotransmitter that inhibits the activity of neurons, resulting in a calming effect.

The Porter Nitronox® nitrous oxide analgesia devices are demand-flow systems which means that the nitrous oxide and oxygen mixture is self-administered through a mouthpiece or mask, which allows patients to control the amount of gas they receive. This gives patients a greater sense of control and can help to reduce anxiety. Nitronox® nitrous oxide analgesia is fast-acting, with effects typically felt within seconds of inhalation. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly, usually within minutes of stopping inhalation.

Nitronox® nitrous oxide analgesia is generally safe and well-tolerated, but it can cause some side effects, such as dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, and vomiting. These side effects are usually mild and go away quickly once the gas is stopped.

Nitronox® nitrous oxide analgesia can be an effective anxiolytic for a variety of medical and dental procedures, as well as for other situations where anxiety is a problem, such as public speaking or flying. Nitronox® nitrous oxide analgesia is ideal for short, minimally invasive and non-invasive medical procedures where there is a need for pain management or minimal sedation:
